Match reports from our Captains - 3rd & 4th February 2024

Ladies BL vs Roydon
This weekend saw Horwich Ladies 2s take on Roydon in the Bolton League. Both teams created some good chances, with Horwich’s best chance of the first half coming from a short corner. Despite a spell of good pressure, the score at halftime was 0-0.
There was more of the same in the second half with a number of chances narrowly missing the target.
It was a very evenly matched game and the full time score was 0-0.

Mens 2s vs Buxton 4s
Horwich 2s took on Buxton 4s with only 9 men. The 2s started out shaky with a lack of confidence down a few men but Warren slung a ball in for Mossy on the back post to set the 2s ahead. It was just a matter of staying ahead then. In the second half, mossy found a second goal and Jason scored a third for Horwich! Unfortunately, the clean sheet was spoiled by a penalty corner that Buxton managed to convert.
The game ended with a 3-1 win for Horwich!

Mens 1s vs Rochdale 2s
Looking to continue a great start to the second half of the season, Horwich were looking to play in the same manner as in previous weeks.
Rochdale threw a spanner in the works by pressing high at every opportunity and seeming to want the points more than Horwich.
Horwich started off in the same fashion as previous weeks. They raced into a 2 goal lead with goals from Reidy and Geordie before Pikey and Reidy hit both posts in a matter of seconds.
This woke Rochdale up and they clicked into gear. Daky was forced into making some last ditch tackles before Rochdale scored 2 quick goals.
Horwich scored first in the 2nd half with Mossy squeezing the ball under the keeper, then Rochdale equalised through a PC. Chances were few and far between for both teams in the second half.
Horwich had the chance to win it in the last minute, when unfortunately the post was struck again from the rebound, Reidy was fouled, and the resulting PC saw the Rochdale Keeper make another good save.
Final score Horwich 3 - 3 Rochdale.
A point is a good result, as Horwich weren't quite firing on all cylinders and could quite easily have come away with nothing.
On to the next one!!

Ladies 1s vs Oldham 3s
This Sunday Horwich ladies 1s travelled away to take on Oldham 3s.
Horwich started intensely and managed to get their first goal in the first 5 minutes for Amelia.
Horwich then found themselves on the back foot, defending in their own half as Oldham took their chances.
Winning back majority of the possession, Horwich then came back with two more goals, both for Amelia.
The first half finished 3-0 to Horwich.
The second half started shaky for Horwich, with Oldham getting a goal back within a couple of minutes.
Horwich had to work hard to hold on to their 2 goal lead and managed to score 3 more goals, with 4 goals for Amelia, 1 for Sammi and 1 for Abby.
The game ended 6-1 to Horwich.
